Quail hunting in Mexico: Discover some of the last truly wild quail hunting in the northern hemisphere. On an average day, you and your hunting companions will flush approximately 12 to 15 coveys of Bobwhite quail during an afternoon hunt. Covey sizes vary from roughly 20 to 30 quail per covey.How is a chapter formed? Chapters are formed by committed groups that have an interest in seeing upland wildlife habitat improved. After initial consultation with Quail Forever, a group generates interest in an organizational meeting for their area through publicity and talking with associates and community leaders.

KANSAS UPLAND BIRD, WATERFOWL SEASONS ON TAP - Oct. 28, 2009
PRATT - The Kansas pheasant and quail seasons return to their traditional opening and closing dates this fall. Both seasons open on Saturday, Nov. 14, and run through Jan. 31, 2010. Prairie chicken season opens a week later - Nov. 21 through Jan. 31, 2010, in the Northwest and East units. In the Southwest Unit, prairie chicken season runs Nov. 21-Dec. 31. (The prairie chicken Southwest Unit is bordered by Highway K-96 on the north and U.S. 281 on the east.)
NJ Small Game Season Opens November 7 - Oct. 27, 2009
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Division of Fish and Wildlife reminds hunters that the 2009-10 small game seasons for pheasant, bobwhite quail, fox and coyote open 8:00 AM on Saturday, November 7. The seasons for rabbit, hares and squirrel (open since September 26), ruffed grouse and woodcock north of Rt. 70 (open since October 15) and raccoon/opossum (open since October 1) remain open with an 8:00 AM start on November 7.
Quail Forever's 2009 Quail Hunting Forecast - Oct. 23, 2009
Overview: No state is reporting a massive turnaround in bobwhite quail populations, but there are many small habitat success stories that are building on one another. There is a formula that works, but needs to be replicated many thousands of times over. States are reporting bobs have responded well to Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) "Bobwhite Buffers" - there are now over 210,000 acres nationally - and there are many new CRP State Acres For wildlife Enhancement (SAFE) practices targeted specifically at bobwhites. Many states have also made improving and restoring bobwhite quail habitat a priority through new initiatives, which combined with federal conservation program success and the ever-expanding presence of Quail Forever, bodes well for the species.
Missouri Leads the Way for Quail Forever - Oct. 16, 2009
A group of Kansas City area bird hunters and quail enthusiasts have formed Missouri's newest chapter of Quail Forever (QF). The new MO-KAN Chapter of Quail Forever plans to focus their efforts on improving habitat for quail and introducing area youngsters to the outdoors. The addition of the new MO-KAN Chapter brings Missouri's QF count up to 16 chapters and over 2,000 members since the organization formed in 2005, making Missouri the largest QF state in both categories.
QF Guardedly Optimistic about Recent USDA Comments Concerning CRP - Oct. 15, 2009
Recently, high ranking officials at the U.S. Department of Agriculture spoke at public forums in support of the Conservation Reserve Program's (CRP) wildlife benefits and the need to protect the program's legacy. While the verbal support for CRP may signal that hunter's messages are being heard within the halls of USDA, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever says now is not the time to rest easy. Just last month, USDA announced that one of their policy options under consideration is to drop CRP enrollment to 24 million acres nationwide.
Quail Forever Growing Chapters and Coveys in Nebraska - Oct. 15, 2009
A group of Howard County residents have formed the nation's newest chapter of Quail Forever (QF). The group, called the Central Nebraska Chapter of QF, plans to improve area habitat as they help the local population of bobwhite quail continue its rapid growth.
2009 August Roadside Quail Survey Summary - Oct. 14, 2009
The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation has conducted annual roadside surveys in August and October since 1990 to index quail populations across Oklahoma. Currently, Department employees run 83, 20-mile routes in all counties except Oklahoma and Tulsa. Some larger counties like Beaver, Ellis, Le Flore, McCurtain, Osage, Pittsburg, Pushmataha, and Roger Mills have two routes. The survey provides an index of annual population fluctuations. Observers report the number of quail seen to provide an index of quail abundance (number seen/20 mile route) and reproductive success.
Shooting Preserve Owners Join Forces in new Tennessee Quail Forever Chapter - Oct. 13, 2009
Two western Tennessee shooting preserve owners have joined forces to create the state's newest chapter of Quail Forever (QF). Jerry Lynn Phillips, owner of Turnbo Creek Shooting Preserve and Barry Stinnett, owner of Lakeview Shooting Preserve, volunteered their free time to organize the new Tennessee River Quail & Dove Chapter of QF.
